Significant life events — such as the death of a family member, friend, or pet; entering foster or kinship care, divorce or a move; abuse; trauma; a parent leaving on military deployment; or a major illness in the family — can cause stress that might lead to problems with behavior, mood, sleep, appetite, and academic or social functioning. In some cases, it's not as clear what's caused a child to suddenly seem withdrawn, worried, stressed, sulky, or tearful. If you feel your child might have an emotional or behavioral problem or needs help coping with a difficult life event, consider seeking support through adolescent counseling, child therapy, or even play therapy. Trust your instincts in identifying when your child requires assistance.

Developmental delays in speech, language, or toilet training can be common in children, and may necessitate child therapy to address these challenges. Learning or attention problems, such as ADHD, can also benefit from adolescent counseling to help improve focus and academic performance. Additionally, episodes of sadness, tearfulness, or depression, along with social withdrawal or isolation, may require support from mental health professionals. Victims of bullying or those exhibiting overly aggressive behavior, such as biting or hitting, can find relief through play therapy, which encourages expression and coping skills. Other concerns include decreased interest in previously enjoyed activities, sudden changes in appetite, insomnia or increased sleepiness, and excessive school absenteeism or tardiness. Mood swings, management of serious illnesses, bereavement issues, and excessive worry or anxiety are also signs that may indicate a need for counseling. Recognizing signs of alcohol, drug, or other substance use, excessive anger, disruptive behavior, or even eating disorders is crucial. A significant drop in grades, therapy following trauma, or an increase in physical complaints like headaches or stomachaches may all point to underlying issues that can be addressed through adolescent counseling or child therapy. Finally, difficulties in transitions, such as following a separation, divorce, or relocation, can be navigated more smoothly with the right therapeutic support.

Our services for children most often focus on Play Therapy, which is a key component of child therapy, along with providing Parenting Skills Training and feedback to parents. When indicated, we might also offer Family Therapy services to the entire family.
Our therapists and counselors are trained in Play Therapy and, alongside other mental health professionals, have found that this approach effectively meets the mental health needs of children. Additionally, we provide adolescent counseling to support older children and teenagers.
